市営プールからの帰りであったか
歩道を歩いていたら呼び止められた。
「おーい、おーい、おーい」
なんとなく聞き覚えのある声。
振り向くとそこにバスあって、その窓から
卒業した高校の元同級生の男が手を振っている。
車道は渋滞しており、徐行するバスと並んで
僕は彼と会話することになる。
「久しぶり。元気そうだね」
「あれ、さっき会わなかったっけ」
「えっ、そうだっけ」
「まあいいや。みんな楽しみに待っているぞ」
バスの別の窓から、女の子たちの笑顔が見える。
「キャー」という歓声さえ聞こえる。
彼女たちは僕を知っているようだが
僕は彼女たちが何者なのかわからない。
ひとりの女の子は学校の制服を着て
窓から身を乗り出して話しかけてくる。
「わあ、君ってあまり変わらないのね。
会えて嬉しいよ、とっても」
なかなか愛嬌あって美人に見えるが
残念ながら、やっぱり誰なのか僕にはわからない。
まあ、いいか。
女の子というのは放っておくと
勝手にコロコロ変わるものだからな。

From the Bus Window
I was stopped when I was walking on the sidewalk,
maybe on the way back from the municipal pool.
"Hey, hey, hey."
Somehow a familiar voice.
When I turned around, there was a bus,
and a former classmate at the school I graduated
from was waving through the window.
The road is congested
and I will have a conversation with him
alongside the slow-moving bus.
"It's been a long time. You look fine."
"Oh, we just met, right?"
"Well, is that so?"
"Well, everyone is looking forward to you."
I can see the smiling faces of the girls
from another window on the bus.
I can even hear their cheers.
They seem to know me,
but I don't know who they are.
A girl in a high school uniform
leans out of the window and talks to me.
"Wow, you don't change much.
I'm glad to meet you, very much."
It looks pretty charming and beautiful,
but unfortunately I don't know who she is.
Well, is that okay?
Girls are things that change steadily if left alone.
