お寺か神社の境内のような庭で
顔見知りの女性が歓声をあげている。
たき火であろうか、煙立ちのぼるその上に
若い男が傘を開いてかざし、彼女に何かささやく。
嘘っぽいがいかにも優しげな言葉。
それに対抗してスコップらしき大きな道具をかざし
こちらも嘘っぽい優しげなセリフを発する。
そこへ住職であろうか神主であろうか
老人が現れ、霊験あらたかなる言葉をのたまう。
おれはたき火を笑いながらまたいで飛び越え
学校のようでもある建物の中に入る。
釈然としないものが胸の内にくすぶるも
いかんともしがたき夏の夕暮れ。

Compare Kindness
A familiar woman cheers in a garden
like the precincts of a temple or shrine.
A young man opens his umbrella
and holds it over a bonfire or smoke,
whispering something to her.
Lie-like but very kind words.
In response,
I hold up a large tool that looks like a shovel
and say something that sounds kind and fake.
Whether it is a priest or a priest,
an old man appears there
and praises the words of the spiritual test.
I jump over the bonfire with a laugh
and enter a building that looks like a school.
Something unsettling smolders in my chest,
but it's a difficult summer dusk.
