ひとりで舗装道路を歩いていたら
切れ目があって、そこは川になっていた。
そこそこ水は澄み、黄土色の川底が見える。
流れが方角を変えるための溜まりになっているのだろう。
なんとなく観察してみようかな、という気になり
しゃがんで覗いていると、カワニナの姿を見つけた。
澄んだ川だからカワニナがいても不思議ない。
それだけかな、とあたりを見まわしていると
変な動物が川の近くに姿を現した。
黄土色の体毛に覆われたネズミみたいな印象。
そいつが川に飛び込み、泳ぎ始めた。
なんとなくできそうな気がしたので
片手を伸ばし、そいつを捕まえてみた。
暴れもせず、簡単につかむことができた。
背中は甲羅みたいで、毛深い亀のような感触。
裏返して、しげしげ観察する。
こじんまりとした顔、かわいらしい。
近くを歩いていた人たちも興味を示して
「捕まえたの？ へえ、すごいね」などと言う。
このまま持ち帰って飼おうか、などと考える。
いやいや、世話が大変だ。
しかし、このまま逃がすのも惜しい。
どうしたものか。

Observation of the River
When I was walking alone on the paved road,
there was a break, which turned into a river.
The water was clear and I could see the ocher riverbed.
It may be a pool for the flow to change direction.
I was wondering if I should observe it somehow,
and when I crouched down and looked into it,
I found a black snail.
It's a clear river, so it's no wonder there is a black snail.
As I looked around,
a strange animal appeared near the river.
The impression of it like a mouse
covered with ocher hair.
It jumped into the river and started swimming.
I felt like I could do it somehow,
so I reached out one hand and tried to catch it.
It didn't rampage and I could easily grab it.
Its back is like a shell and feels like a hairy turtle.
I turn it over and observe it sternly.
A small face, pretty.
People walking nearby also showed interest and said,
"Did you catch it? Hey, it's amazing."
I think I should take it home and keep it as it is.
Let's stop, it's hard to take care of.
However, it is regrettable to let it escape as it is.
What should I do?
