そばがら枕に頭をのせると
砂のこぼれるような音がする。
枕の中に砂漠が広がっているみたい。
砂漠ならフェネックが棲んでいるだろう。
キツネの仲間としてはもっとも小さいくせに
もっとも大きな耳を持つ。
地下にトンネルを掘って日中の暑さをしのぎ
涼しい夜になるまで眠っている。
アラブ人は言う。
「二頭の犬はフェネックを遊ばせ
三頭の犬は彼を笑わせ
四頭の犬は彼を走りまわらせ
五頭の犬は彼を逃げ出させ
六頭の犬でようやく彼を捕まえる」
もっとも、そばがら枕の中に犬など
一頭もいないのだけれどね。

Desert in the Pillow
When I put my head on the buckwheat pillow,
I hear the sound of sand spilling.
It looks like a desert is spreading in the pillow.
Fennec foxes will live in the desert.
He is the smallest fox companion
but has the largest ears.
He digs a tunnel underground
to survive the heat of the day
and sleeps until a cool night.
Arabs say.
"Two dogs let Fennec play,
The three dogs made him laugh,
The four dogs run him around,
Five dogs let him escape,
And finally catch him with six dogs."
However, there are no dogs
in the buckwheat pillow.
