大勢の客または生徒たちが勝手に無駄話をしている。
さてこれより対戦してくれることになった。
いわゆる生ける伝説の登場である。
皆はビビってしまい、私が相手をすることになった。
私の棋力はせいぜい初段程度。
弱くもないが、さして強くもない。
それでもプロ棋士と対戦できるのは嬉しい。
盤を挟んで向き合い、駒を並べ始める。
「ほほう、これはなかなか立派なものですね」
感心した様子の老棋士。
「ええ、そうでしょう」
我がことのように嬉しくなる。
実際、広い将棋盤に大きな駒である。
ただし、駒の中に黄色っぽくて半透明な
将棋盤型マグネットクリップが混ざっているのは、ご愛嬌。
「ただし、ちょっとばかり汚れておりますな」
老棋士は盤の表面を布でふき始める。
なるほど、たしかに白っぽく見える部分がある。
我がことのように申しわけない気分。
ふきながら老棋士は続ける。
「あなたにあらかじめ伝えておきますが
とにかくですね、よく考えて指してくださいね。
なんと申しますかな、他のことは考えずにですね
今この勝負だけに集中して欲しいわけですよ。
おりますよね、気分次第にパッパと指して
それでいいのだ、問題ないのだ、という人。
あれはいけません」
「ええ、わかります。そのつもりです」
実際、そのつもりだった。
