その女は昔の会社の先輩。
のちに退職してから知ることになるが
過去に複数の上司と不倫関係にあったという。
からかい甲斐のある愉快な人ではあったが
恋愛対象ではないな、と思っていた。
そんな彼女が多数のトラブルを起こし
法事の席だったかで親族会議が開かれた。
解決策として俺は彼女との結婚を提案する。
どういう経緯 だったか思い出せないが
ともかくそのような決断を下してしまった。
確かに、俺が彼女と結婚することにより
問題のほとんどが解決しそうな予感はある。
しかし、やはり恋愛感情はない。
そこへ親戚まわりをしていた兄が帰宅した。
彼女がいるのに気づかない兄は彼女の悪口を言い出す。
聞き捨てならないので私は宣言する。
「じつは俺、彼女と結婚することになったんだ」
信じられない、という驚愕の表情の兄。
そうであろう、そうであろう。
はて、この爽快感はいったいなんなのだろう。
