買い物帰りであったか。
マンション敷地内に入ったところ。
新たに転入した住人だろうか。
インド人の女の子が片言の日本語で挨拶してきた。
弟であろう男の子も一緒にいる。
彼女、久しぶりに会えて嬉しそうな態度。
だが、私には彼女の記憶がない。
ちょっと前までパキスタン人の男が住んでいた。
だが、まさか彼の娘ということはあるまい。
誰なのか尋ねれば済むが、できれば避けたい。
あまりにも明るくかわいらしい笑顔なので
それを曇らせてしまいたくないからだ。
A Bright Smile
Was it shopping back?
I entered the condominium premises.
I wonder if it is a newly moved inhabitant.
An Indian girl greeted in a one-word Japanese.
A boy who will be her brother is with her.
She seems to be happy to see you after a long absence.
But I have no memory of her.
A Pakistani man lived there a while ago.
However, there is no such thing as his daughter.
I can ask her whom she is, but I want to avoid it if possible.
Because her smile is too bright and pretty,
I do not want to cloud it.
