碁会所で小さな大会があった。
級位者から高段者まで４段階に区別され
４つのテーブルに分かれて対戦する。
出入り口近くのテーブルは級位者向け。
奥ほどレベルが上がり、高段者向けになっている。
夕方になり、大会は終わりかけていた。
「あんた、こんなところにいたのか」
ある老人が級位者のテーブルにいた老人に声をかけた。
「ああ、ちょっとね」
テーブルの老人は木工細工をしていた。
どうやら二人は高段の
奥にいた老人は相手を捜していたようだ。
黙々と木工細工を続ける老人とそれを眺める老人。
古びたプライドが邪魔して話は弾まない。
