授業中、教室に波が押し寄せてきた。
床はすっかり水浸しになった。
正面の黒板にまで波の飛沫がかかり
無数の小さな黒い点々がついた。
「じつにけしからん！」
教師はチョークを波に投げつけた。
「ここは浜辺じゃないんだぞ」
教壇はすっかり四角な小島になっていて
彼が怒るのも無理ないな、と思った。
教室のあちこちで悲鳴があがり
生徒たちは椅子や机の上に避難した。
「どこからやってきたのかしら？」
すぐ隣の席の女子生徒が自問している。
彼女の靴と靴下は両足とも濡れていた。
「ちゃんと扉は閉まっているのに････」
窓もみんな閉まっていた。
波が入ってくる隙間はないはずだった。
「みんな、波なんか無視しろ」
教師は授業を続けようとしている。
「こんなの気のせいだ。幻にすぎない」
それでも波は教室に打ち寄せている。
懐かしい潮の香りさえする。
級長でもある男子生徒が手をあげた。
「先生」
「なんだ」
「僕、この波に見覚えがあります」
「なに、本当か」
「はい」
「どこの波なんだ」
「去年、僕が溺れた夏の海です」
その途端、彼は波にさらわれてしまった。
見上げると、カモメが飛んでいる。
もう波の音しか聞こえないのだった。
