少年はいつも車椅子に乗っていた。
彼には両足がなかったのだ。
「生まれた時からなかったんだ」
少年は僕に話してくれた。
「でも、かわりに翼がある」
それらしきものは見えなかった。
「そう。見えない翼なんだ」
少年の瞳はきらきら輝いていた。
（ないのは、足だけではないかも）
僕は、そう思ったものだ。
この少年と別れて、もう随分たつ。
ところが今日、僕宛に手紙が届いた。
あの足のない少年からだった。
もっとも、僕と同じくらい
今では彼も大人になっているはずだが。
その手紙の中で彼は書いている。
「君にも翼が見えたよね」
あっ、と僕は驚いた。
僕は空を見上げている。
背に翼のある男が僕に手を振る。
なんだか、とても懐かしい。
空を飛ぶ男に僕は呼びかける。
「やあ、元気そうだね！」
そんな場面を思い出したのだ。
ほんの最近、僕が見た夢。
すっかり忘れていた。
そういえば、男には足がなかったかもしれない。
（あの男は、あの少年だったんだ！）
僕は嬉しくなって跳びはねる。
でも、ほんのちょっとしか浮けない。
（でも、君は本当に空を飛べるんだね）
すごい、と僕は思った。
たとえ、それが僕たちの
心の中にしかない空だとしても。

A Boy with Wings
The boy was always in a wheelchair.
He had no legs.
"They were not since I was born."
The boy told me.
"But, there are wings instead."
I could not see anything like that.
"Yes, it is an invisible wing."
The eyes of the boy were shining brightly.
(It may not be only feet, but nothing.)
I thought so.
Separated from this boy, it is already long.
However, a letter has arrived at me today.
It was from that boy with no legs.
Although he should be an adult as much as I am now.
In the letter he writes.
"You could see the wings, are not you?"
Oh, I was surprised.
I am looking up at the sky.
A man with wings on his back waves his hand to me.
Somehow, I miss it very much.
I call upon a man who fly in the sky.
"Hey, you look good!"
I remembered such a scene.
Just recently, the dream I saw.
I completely forgot.
Speaking of which, the man may not have legs.
That man was that boy!
I feel joyful and jump.
But, I can only rise a bit.
But you can truly fly the sky.
It was amazing, I thought.
Even if it is the sky that is only in our hearts.
