帰宅の途中、古本屋をのぞく。
外国語の文法に関する本を探していたのだ。
ところが、その古本屋の軒下にある入り口は
細かな仕切りのある棚で塞がれていた。
それは本棚ではなかった。
細長いスプリングやピン、
またはネジのようなものが並んでいる。
それらを指でつまんで調べていると
棚の上にある横長の引き戸が開いた。
しわだらけの老婆の顔が、ぬっと現われ
「もう閉めようと思うとるんやけどな」
なるほど、もう夕暮れである。
「ああ、そうですか」
指につまんでいた金属部品をあわてて棚に戻す。
「明日は何時からやってますか？」
その質問に対して老婆が返事をする。
けれども開店時間を知りたいわけでもないので
ほとんど注意して聞いていなかった。
「ああ、そうですか」
適当に相槌を打ち、逃げるように去る。
（ふん。あんな古本屋、二度と行くもんか）
そもそも外国語の文法にしたって
ことさら知りたいというわけでもないのだ。
Second-Hand Bookstore
On the way home, I look at a used bookstore.
I was looking for a book
about foreign language grammar.
However, the entrance
under the eaves of the secondhand bookstore
was closed by a shelf with fine partitions.
It wasn't a bookshelf.
Lined with elongated springs, pins, or screws.
I picked them up with my fingers and looked up,
and a horizontal sliding door on the shelf opened.
The wrinkled old woman's face appeared,
"I think I'll close it."
I see, it's already dusk.
"Oh, I see."
I hurriedly put the metal parts
that were on my fingers back on the shelf.
"When do you start tomorrow?"
The old woman replies to the question.
However, I didn't want to know the opening time,
so I didn't listen carefully.
"Oh, I see."
I respond appropriately and leave to escape.
(Hmm. I'll never go to that second hand bookstore.)
In the first place, I don't really want to know
about foreign language grammar.
