雪の斜面に男がひとり立っている。
黒い帽子、黒いサングラス、黒い防寒服のいでたち。
その両手には紅白の旗が握られている。
男から見て右手側より女子スキー選手たちが現れ
ストックを突きながら左手側へと滑ってゆく。
彼女たちが男の前を通り過ぎる時、男は
紅白どちらかの旗を振りながら進行方向を示す。
だが、男の旗を振る動作にはあいまいな点があり
極端な場合、右手側へUターンする女子選手までいる。
そのような女子選手は疲れた表情をしており
また、いかにも疲れたようにのろのろ滑っている。
どうやら男は旗を振る仕事を楽しんでいるようだ。
その証拠のように唇の両端がヒゲと一緒に上がっている。
観客の姿はまばらで、歓声も滅多に聞こえない。
主催者側の見解が発表されることはなさそうだが
どうやらスキー大会は失敗のようである。
いまさら説明するのもなんであるが、空は曇っており
モノクロの針葉樹林の陰影が男の背景に立ちこめている。

The Ski Competition
A man stands alone on the snow slope.
Black hat, black sunglasses and black winter clothes.
His hands hold a red and white flag.
Female skiers appear from the right hand side
as seen from the man and slide to the left hand side
while piercing the pole.
As they pass by the man,
the man shows his direction,
waving either the red or white flag.
However, waving his flag is ambiguous,
and in extreme cases,
some female players make a U-turn to the right.
Such women players have a tired look
and are slid slowly as if they were tired.
Apparently
the man enjoys the task of waving the flag.
Both ends of his lips are raised with mustaches,
as evidence of that.
The audience is sparse,
and cheers are rarely heard.
The opinion of the organizers is unlikely
to be announced,
but the ski competition seems to have failed.
It's weird to explain now, though,
that the sky is cloudy
and the shade of monochrome coniferous forest
stands behind the man.
