けもの道に迷ったあげく
青年はけものになってしまった。
爪を立て、牙をむき、血に飢えた眼。
笑顔を忘れ、優しさは微塵もない。
青年には恋人がいたが
彼女が手紙を出しても返信はない。
消息の途絶えた青年を探して
やがて彼女もけもの道に分け入った。
しかし、彼女はけものにならなかった。
けものに食べられてしまったから。
その食べたけものが
あるいは青年だったかもしれない。
一枚の白い便箋が落ちて
死んだ魚のように谷川を流れてゆく。
すでにインクの文字は消えかけている。
けものになってしまったら、どうせ
もう人の言葉は読めないはずではあるけれど。

The Beast Path
After getting lost in the beast path,
the young man became a beast.
His claws, fangs, and bloodthirsty eyes.
He forgets his smile and his kindness is fine.
The young man had a lover,
but when she wrote to him, there was no reply.
In search of her lost young man,
she eventually entered the beast path.
But she didn't become a beast.
She was eaten by the beast.
The beast that ate her, maybe it was him.
A piece of white stationery falls
and flows down the valley river like a dead fish.
The letters in the ink are already disappearing.
If he became a beast,
he wouldn't be able to read human words anyway.
