僕たちはうまくいかないレールに乗っている。
このレールの上の、たとえば列車の中で僕たちは
「やった。儲けた」「しくじった」
と一喜一憂するけれど
そういうのに大した意味はない。
なにしろ、このレールの上では
何をやっても最終的にうまくいかないのだから。
誰が敷いたのか、悪意あったのか
はっきりしないけれど
そうなるようにレールは敷かれている。
それが、うまくいかないレール。
ただし
走る列車から死を覚悟して飛び降りるほどでもない。
うまくいかない具合が、さほど切実ではないから。
真綿で首を絞められるみたいに
いい塩梅にうまくいかないのである。
ダラダラ、中途半端にうまくいかない。
我慢できなくもないほどにうまくいかない。
うまく言えないけど、とにかくうまくいかない。
うまくいかないレールの上の僕たちの
この生ぬるい絶望。

The Rail That Doesn't Work
We're on a rail that doesn't work.
On this rail, for example on the train,
we're glad to say, "I did it. I made a profit"
and "I messed up."
But that doesn't mean much.
After all, no matter what you do on this rail,
it doesn't work in the end.
It's unclear who laid it or it was malicious,
but this rail is laid that way.
That's the rail that doesn't work.
