ここがどこなのか定かでない。
会社のオフィスのようでもあり
喫茶店や知人宅のようでもある。
ともかく、自宅でないことだけは確かだ。
そんな場所で本を探している。
ソファーに腰かけ、床に散らばる本を見下ろしながら。
近くにある本をひっくり返したりもする。
どうも諦めの気分。
見つかることは期待できないようだ。
何かの参考資料か、単に趣味で読みたいのか
本を探す当初の目的も忘れてしまった。
ふと気配を感じ、窓に目を向ける。
窓の外から誰かがこちらにカメラを向けている。
ドキリとする。
するとおれは悪いことをしていたのか。
よく見ると、そいつは親しい友人だった。
ホッとする。
しかし、それでも言い訳を考え始める。
なかなか適当な言葉が浮かばない。

Find a Book
I'm not sure where this is.
It's like a company office,
a coffee shop or an acquaintance's house.
Anyway, I'm sure I'm not at home.

I sit on the sofa and look down
at the books scattered on the floor.

I feel like giving up.

Someone is pointing the camera
at me from outside the window.
