町会の寄り合いか、それとも同窓会か。
初老の男たちがテーブルを囲んで話し込んでいる。
会議と呼ぶほどでもない。
飲み会みたいな気楽さ。
議長格の男が発言する。
「それじゃ、おまえんちで風呂に入ることにしよう」
「ああ、いいよ」
そいつがうなづく。
「それじゃ、あなたんちの風呂は、大勢で入れるの？」
おれが驚いても「うん。入れるね」と平気な顔。
「旅館なの？」「まあ、なんというかな」
「つまりだよ」
議長格の男が説明してくれる。
露天になっていて、そこから少しずつ浅くなり
やがて川になる風呂なのだそうだ。
「へー、それは凄いね」
それなら入浴してみたいものだ、などと思う。

Bath That Becomes a River
Is it a neighborhood association
or an alumni association?
Elderly men are talking around the table.
It's not even called a meeting.
Feeling like a drinking party.
The chairman speaks.
"Then, let's take a bath with you."
"Oh, that's fine."
He nods.
"Then, do you take a lot of baths in your house?"
Even if I was surprised,
he said, "Yeah, I'll put it in."
"Is it an inn?" "Well, what should I say?"
"That's right."
The chairman will explain.
It's an open-air bath,
and it's a bath that gradually becomes shallower
and eventually becomes a river.
"Hmm, that's amazing."
Then I think I would like to take a bath.
