なにやら辛い経験をした直後だった。
友人が言う。
「そちらへ慰め鳥を送ったよ」
風通しの良さそうな部屋の中に
どこからか鳩ほどの大きさの鳥が入ってきた。
猫みたいな柔らかな声でさえずる。
最初は天井の梁の上にいた。
左手を差し出すと、人差し指の上に停まった。
それから腕に移動する。
すごく人に馴れているのだった。
腕はテーブルの上にあり、僕は
突っ伏したような姿勢で鳥と見つめ合う。
とてもかわいらしい。
羽毛に覆われた頭を撫でてやる。
喜んで撫でさせてくれる。
いかにも嬉しそうなさえずり。
なんとも心地よい。
泣きたいほど優しい気持ちになるのだった。
どんな辛い経験をしたのであったか
もう思い出せないのだけれど。

Comforting Bird
It was shortly after I had such a painful experience.

A bird, as big as a pigeon, came in from where
it came into a room with good ventilation.
