近所の老朽化した市立総合病院は、別の近所に
市立総合医療センターとして新築移転される予定。
まだ工事中なれど、その内覧会があるそうな。
せっかくなので、コンデジ持って見学することにした。
エレベーターの定員数で区切り、各グループごとに
市の職員引率による院内設備の説明を受ける。
そのため、見学希望者による長い待ち行列ができていた。
行き止まりの長い廊下を奥まで進んでUターンする形。
左の列がやがて曲がって右の列につながるわけなので
それを待って並べば奥まで進む必要はない。
理屈はそうであるが、実際に並んでみると抵抗ある。
前の隙間を詰めるのが行列の暗黙マナーだから。
また、すでに本日の受付時間は過ぎたとしても
列の後ろの人たちは窮屈な状態かもしれない。
さらに、窓が並ぶ右側には腰かけられる段差の敷居もある。
皆もそう考えて従順に並んでいるのだろう。
ところが、折り返してしばらくしたところで
左の列の前進を先頭で止めて待つ女の人がいた。
意志の人である。
たったひとつの理屈に従う人である。
病院の移設案に猛反対した人かもしれない。
わずかでも前進するのが行列のささやかな喜びなのに
それを止めて超然としている存在の
もし民度の低い外国人がいたなら
ここぞとばかり途切れた隙間に割り込むであろう。
そして彼女は、当然のごとくその行為を
窓の敷居に腰かけて老体を休ませながら
いろんな意味で痛いな、と思った。
