本棚の本が入れ替わったような気がしてならない。
書斎にある大きな木製の本棚。
そのガラスの引き戸の奥に本がある。
本は大きさもジャンルも様々。
並び方も整然と雑然の中間ほど。
これら本の配置が変わった気配がする。
どの本がどの位置へ、とは指摘できない。
けれども、なんとなく違和感を感じる。
独身の一人暮らしである。
また、滅多に訪問者はいない。
他人が動かしたとは考えにくい。
ならば、犯人は自分か。
そこそこ高齢ではある。
物忘れがあっても不思議ではない。
だが、納得できない。
まったく見覚えのない本まであるのだ。
その一冊を引き出し、ページをめくる。
年甲斐もなく顔を赤らめてしまった。
こんな過激な写真集、まったく記憶にない。
少ないが、文庫本もある。
お気に入りの推理作家の未読の小説を見つけた。
この作家は生涯に四冊しか作品を書かず
その四冊とも確かに読んだはずなのに。
驚いたことに、私の伝記まで見つけた。
著者名に記憶はない。
なかなか立派な装丁である。
よくも調べたものだ。
ほとんど内容は合っている。
ただし、没年はとうに過ぎていた。

This writer writes only four books in his lifetime.
I should have read all four books.

There is no memory for the author's name.
It is very good binding.
He examined me well.
Almost content is right.
