花火セットを友人が捨てるという。
花火大会をしようと買ったのだが
夏に使う暇がなくて、もう季節は冬。
花火が家にあるのは危険かもしれない。
だが、そのまま捨てるのはもっと危険だ。
「社会人として行動に責任を持つべきだ」
そのように主張した結果として
花火セットを持ち帰ることになってしまった。
今、枕もとに花火セットが置いてある。
冬の夜は寒い。
布団から出たくない。
家の外はもっと寒いはずだ。
冷たい北風が吹いている。
団地なので自分専用の庭もない。
花火を打ち上げる意欲など湧くはずがなかった。
布団にくるまったまま悩むだけだ。
ふと幼い頃の一場面を思い出した。
ある夜、隣家の庭で花火大会をやっていた。
花火がきれいだった。
光がまぶしかった。
自分の家には花火なんか一本もなかった。
理由は知らない。
おそらく家庭の事情だろう。
にぎやかな笑い声がする。
ひどく羨ましかった。
とても悔しかった。

恐る恐る点火して、すごい音がして
こっちの方があっちよりきれいだぞ。
回転花火、ロケット花火、もっとあるぞ。
すぐ横には父と母の笑顔だってあるんだ。
あの夏の夜、この花火セットがあって････
ふと枕もとを見た。
花火セットはなかった。
そうそう、あの夏の夜は楽しかったな。
