水の入ったバケツを兄の家に届けて帰ると
実家には父が帰宅していた。
「風呂に入りたいな」
独り言のように父がつぶやく。
あなたの望みは叶えてやりたいが、あいにく
バケツ一杯の水なかりせば風呂に入ることかなわず。
「わかりました。すぐ戻ります」
そう言い残し、急いで兄の家に引き返す。
ところが、着いたところは兄の家ではなかった。
ガラス張りの白っぽいビル。
ガラスのドアを引き戸式に開け
最上階にあるオフィスに侵入する。
休日なのか誰もいない。
バケツが見当たらないので出ようとすると
ガラスの入り口から放し飼いの黒ウサギが侵入。
このままドアを閉めてしまったら
無人のオフィスの中で飢え死にするだろう。
持ち上げて通路に出てからドアを閉め、鍵をかける。
黒ウサギとは別に灰色ウサギが一羽、通路にいて
開いた引き戸にあやうく挟まるところだった。
こちらを不思議そうな表情で見上げる。
いけないことかもしれないが
持ち帰るつもりで灰色ウサギを抱き上げる。
さて帰ろうとすると
二人の掃除婦がお喋りしながら階段を下りるところ。
彼らをやり過ごしてからビルを出よう。
しかし、よくよく考えてみれば
掃除婦ならバケツの一つぐらい持っていたかもしれない。
手持ちぶさたに視線を下せば
じっとこちらを見上げる灰色ウサギ。
いかにも問い質したそうな、そのつぶらな瞳。

Ash White Rabbit
When I delivered a bucket of water
to my brother's house and returned,
my father was back at my parents' house.
"I want to take a bath."
He mutters like a soliloquy.
I want to make your wish come true,
but unfortunately you can't take a bath
without a bucket of water.
"I see. I'll be back soon."
I left behind that
and hurried back to my brother's house.
However, the place
where I arrived was not my brother's house.
A whitish building fitted with glass.
I open the glass door in a sliding door
and break into the office on the top floor.
Nobody is on holiday.
I couldn't find a bucket, so when I tried to leave,
a free-range black rabbit was invading
through the glass entrance.
If I keep the door shut,
it will starve to death in an unmanned office.
I lift it out into the aisle,
then close the door and lock it.
In addition to the black rabbit,
there was one gray rabbit in the aisle,
about to be caught in the open sliding door.
It looks up at me with a strange look.
It may be a bad thing,
but I'm going to take the gray rabbit up with me,
intending to bring it home.
Now, when I'm going home,
two cleaning women are talking down the stairs.
Let's finish them and leave the building.
However, if I think about it well,
a cleaning lady might have had one in her bucket.
A gray rabbit looking up at me
when I gaze at the piggy-held pigeon.
The murky eyes
