繁華街の目抜き通りを通行人として歩いている。
テレビのニュース番組の取材であろうか
ある男がインタビューを受けている。
「あんなことをする奴は絶対に許せませんね」
そんなふうに息巻いている。
つい最近起きた無差別テロ事件についてであろう。
彼のすぐ後ろで僕はスプレー缶を落とす。
話題の凶器と同じものに見えてしまうのではなかろうか。
その不安の証拠のように僕は脇道へと急ぎ駆け去る。
すぐに右の裏道へ入り、さらに右へ折れる。
自分が事件の犯人であるはずはないのだが、それでも
許せない人は許してくれない気がするのだった。

Unforgivable Person
I am walking as a passerby
on the main street of the downtown area.
A man is being interviewed,
perhaps for a TV news program.
"I can't forgive anyone who does that."
He is breathing like that.
Perhaps it was about
the recent indiscriminate terrorist attack.
Immediately behind him I drop a spray can.
Doesn't it look like the weapon of the topic?
Like proof of that anxiety,
I rush away to the side road.
Immediately enter the back road
on the right and turn right further.
I couldn't be the culprit in the case,
but I felt that those
who couldn't forgive wouldn't forgive me.
