夢の中で江戸川区平井の下宿を訪ねてみた。
昔、十代の終わりから二十代の終わりまで
十年間ほど世話になった。
もうなくなっているはず、と思ったら
まだ建物は残っていた。
正面に大家の玄関があり、脇の通路から奥に
二階の下宿人用の出入り口がある。
なぜか、その奥の通路から記憶は始まる。
ガラス戸もなく、窓が大きく開いていて
事務所のような部屋の中が丸見えになっている。
窓辺の向かって左側のデスクには
老婆らしき人物が突っ伏すように眠っている。
まさか、あのおばさんだろうか。
まだ生きているとは常識的に信じがたい。
その向かい、窓辺の右側のデスクには
代が変わったらしい中年の男が事務作業中。
あるいは、あのおじさんの三代目かもしれない。
ただし、大家老夫婦に子どもはなかったはず。
どうも納得できない。
三十代の終わりに実際に訪ねた時には
曇りガラスの窓が通路側にあり、留守だった。
テレビかラジオの音声が聞こえるので
玄関から呼んでみたが、返事はなかった。
たまたま仕事のついでに寄っただけなので
深く追究する気分になれなかったのだ。

Visiting the Boarding House
I tried visiting the boarding house of Hirai
in Edogawa Ward
in my dream.
Once in a while, I was taken care of for ten years
from the end of my teens to the end of my twenties.
I thought that it should be gone now,
the building still remained.
There is an entrance of the landlord in the front,
and the entry and exit for the lodger
on the second floor is at the back of the aisle in the side.
For some reason, memory starts from the path behind it.
There is no glass door, the window is wide open,
the inside of the room like the office is visible.
At the desk on the left side of the window side is sleeping
like an old woman who disappears.
No wonder whether that old lady.
It is hard to believe that
she is still alive in a common sense.
Opposite that, a middle-aged man
who seems to have changed his fee at the desk
on the right side of the window side is in the office work.
Or it may be the third generation of that uncle.
However, the elderly couple should have no children.
I can not accept it.
When actually visiting at the end of thirties,
the window of foggy was on the aisle side, it was absent.
I heard the sound of a TV or radio
so I tried calling from the front door,
but there was no reply.
It just happened to be on the job's side,
so I could not feel like to pursue deeply.
