足もとに白っぽいものが見えた。

先へ進む。

それも拾い上げる。
やがてまた。
今度は五円玉。
その次、また一円玉。
この調子では、大した時給にならない。
それでも見つけたら拾ってしまう。
ところで、なぜか
片手に鶏卵の透明な殻を持っている。
その中に一匹の虫が入っている。
あるいは昆虫ではないかもしれない。
小さな甲殻類という感じ。
泥だらけなので、殻の割れた穴へ
道端の蛇口から水道水を注ぎ入れる。
泥水を捨て、中を覗く。
やや大きくなった虫が穴から出ようとする。
こちらを見上げ、歯をむき出す。
さらに「キーッ」と耳障りな鳴き声。
不安を覚える。
泥虫を怒らせてしまったか。
